Notice to Town of King Residents
Notice to all Town Electors– the Town Board wishes to inform all town residents of a possible change to allow “Village Powers for Town Boards”. Village powers allow the town board to exercise the specific and general powers of a Village under Wis. Stat Chapter 61. This would give the Town of King the ability to have “police power” to regulate for the health, safety and welfare of the public. For example, a town board with village powers could enact a public nuisance ordinance under Ch. 823. A town board without village powers does not have the authority to regulate public nuisances. The town must first get authorization from the Town Electors before it can exercise village powers. The electors vote to authorize village powers by adoption of a resolution at an Annual or Special Town Meeting. Village powers do not change the town to a village, but allow a town board to act beyond the constraints of its enumerated powers (which most are currently regulated by Lincoln County).
The Town of King Board wishes to present and vote upon this Resolution at the Annual Town Meeting set for Tuesday April 15th, 2025 at 5:30pm at the King Town Hall.
